Yesterday President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko came to the Kharkiv region to open the traffic on the bridge across the Siversky Donets river in Izium on the highway M-03 Kyiv–Kharkiv–Dovzhansky.
This very road leads to Donetsk region and ATO zone, and the bridge is one of the biggest in the region.
The president noted that for a long period the local roads were not built or reconstructed, and with the beginning of Russian aggression, the Izium road was used intensively to deliver strategic cargo to the Army and deteriorated considerably. “The road had become the ‘road of life’ and was completely destroyed,” the president highlighted.
Therefore this construction got strategic importance. Also, according to the president, the road Kharkiv–Izium–Slovyansk was identified as one of the priority areas of further road reconstruction.
Poroshenko noted that decentralization and a customs experiment contributed to restoring the Ukrainian roads and this bridge in particular. Out of UAH 22.8 million (less than $1 million) spent for the reconstruction, UAH 13 million came from the state budget, 7 million were received due to the customs experiment, and about 2 million were taken from the local budget.
After the official ceremony, the president rode over the bridge on a bus and made photos with local children who had a lot of fun of it.
Reference: The bridge in Izium was built in 1951. Its last capital repairing was carried out 17 years ago, in 2000. Now the bridge load capacity increased up to 30 tons; previously it was 11 tons.
