Young Kharkivites Win Medals at Iranian Geometry Olympiad

The results of the fourth Iranian Geometry Olympiad became available at the end of last week. This year, more than 1,300 students from 44 countries including China, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Ireland took part in the contest.

The contest takes place in participants’ native countries. The organizers divided contestants into three age groups: elementary (seventh-eighth grades), intermediate (ninth–10th grades) and advanced (11th–12th grades). The students had to complete five tests within 4.5 hours. Having checked the tests and chosen the best works, a local jury scanned and sent them to Iran.

“Ukrainian students participated at the Olympiad for the second time, and Kharkivities made their debut in it. The Kharkiv region’s team was represented by the students of the Physics and Mathematics Lyceum 27,” Department of Science and Education of Kharkiv State Regional Administration informed.

According to results, the 11th-grader Ngo Ngoc Thai Shon won a gold medal.

Eleventh-graders Roman Sarapin, Nikita Veprik, Alina Harbuzova and seventh-grader Artem Urazovskiy got silver medals.

The ninth-grade pupil Oleksiy Masalitin became a bronze winner.

It isn’t the first time Ngo Ngoc Thai Shon and Roman Sarapin have won math competitions. In July, Ngo Ngoc Thai Shon got silver and Roman won bronze at the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Previously, in May, Ngo Ngoc Thai Shon and Roman Sarapin became the best at the fourth Olimpics’ School of Future math contest in Kyshyniv, Moldova.

Reference: Geometry Olympiad, beginning its work in 2014, aimed to pay more attention to geometry and bring various geometric ideas together. It is an annual academic competition for high school students which extended its activity to international level in 2015, whereby the event is simultaneously held in different countries around the world. The event has been held every year since then.
