The United States Air Force Band played a concert in Kharkiv. These musicians are called musical ambassadors because they play all over the world and unite people.
The band visited Kharkiv as a part of the Music Unites Ukrainian tour. The tour is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the USA.
Overall, there are 47 musicians in the US Air Force Band in Europe, 30 of them performed on the Kharkiv stage. Here, the concert began with the anthems of Ukraine and the United States. The greatest hits of Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong and Artie Shaw were played. Also, the musicians played Broadway and Hollywood repertoire and jazz improvisations.
“I wanted to bring something unique. That’s why I asked an American composer to write a melody for this tour. He took Ukrainian and American anthems and merged them. So it is one composition that merges American and Ukrainian cultures,” American conductor John Scofield said.
The orchestra visited seven cities of Ukraine. In addition to Kharkiv, they performed in Mykolaiv, Kherson, Zaporizhia, Dnipro, Odesa and Kyiv. They promised to come with new compositions next year.
