The clients of the majority of Kharkiv IT companies come from the West, and local specialists frequently go on business trips to Western Europe and North America. The only convenient flight in this direction is to Warsaw. So Kharkivites and city guests are quite limited in their flight options.
Kharkiv IT Cluster analyzed data from 62 local IT companies in December 2016. According to the results, IT employees took 4200 flights in 2016, but none of those were direct ones. Over 90% of respondents stated their companies would be more efficient if Kharkiv airport could increase the range of flight destinations.
USA, Germany, the UK, Israel, Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, Austria, Turkey, and France are top 10 countries, where Kharkivites fly frequently.
“When choosing a partner, the clients take into account such factor as direct flight availability. Obviously, Kyiv IT companies have such advantage. We believe that airlines should pay attention to this fact, as there are more than 300 IT companies and about 25,000 IT specialists in Kharkiv region that makes 25% of all IT industry of Ukraine,” noted a member of the supervisory board of Kharkiv IT Cluster Vasyl Soloshchuk.
Thus, Kharkiv IT Cluster has launched IT Flight. It is a social project aimed at expanding the range of direct flights from Kharkiv to other foreign cities.
