UK Operation Orbital Instructors Train Kharkiv Servicemen

93rd separate mechanized Kharkiv brigade was chosen to participate in the UK-led Operation Orbital. Operation Orbital was launched in February 2015 in response to a request from the Ukrainian government to provide guidance and training to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The training program includes medical, logistics, ground sign awareness, and development of general infantry skills. Since 2015 about 5,000 soldiers and officers have been trained by British Army instructors.

Experienced UK instructors will help to develop defense skills. The training complies with the NATO standards. This is the first brigade-level training in the framework of Operation Orbital.

93rd brigade fought in Luhansk region, Karlivka, Pisky, Avdiivka, Illovaysk, Donetsk airport, Butovka mine, Bahmut area. Three soldiers – Olexandr Lavrenko, Serhiy Kolodiy and Eugene Mezhevikin – were granted the title of Hero of Ukraine and military Order of Gold Star. Captains Kolodiy and Lavrenko were awarded posthumously.
