Two-day large scale Vertep Fest started in Kharkiv today. Participants from different Ukrainian regions, performing a colorful parade of nativity scenes, marched from Maidan Konstitutsii to Maidan Svobody. They sang Christmas carols and gave performances.
The military band of the Fifth Detached Slobozhanska Brigade led the march. Before the parade, the participants from the Ivano-Frankivsk region visited the Kharkiv military hospital and congratulated the injured ATO fighters on Christmas holidays.
During two days, about 64 ethnic art groups from 22 Ukrainian regions will show hundreds of vertep performances. About 1,000 participants will sing carols in children’s hospitals, a military hospital, shopping centers, in the city’s parks and even in the metro.
On Sunday, January 14, Vertep Fest participants together with Kharkivites will gather in Gorky Park to take part in an all-Ukrainian action – to sing the Ukrainian Carol “Nova Radist Stala,” which means “New Joy Born” in English. Festival’s organizers hope that Kharkiv will gather a record number of participants.
