Today, Ukraine is celebrating the 26th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The law of Ukraine “On Armed Forces” was approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on December 6, 1991. Two years later, in 1993, the national holiday was established on this day.
Currently, a number of charity events and concerts are taking place in Kharkiv. Within “Wish you to Recover Soon” charity action, household appliances and souvenirs from children were collected all over the Kharkiv region and given to the wounded soldiers in the military hospital.
Several memorable meetings took place in The National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” as 29 soldiers, from among the University’s graduates, have been killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war. The ceremony was carried out in the Ninth Garrison House of Officers where the participants honored the soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine with a minute of silence.
For more than 20 years of independence, the Ukrainian army was badly damaged by corruption, an appointment of Russian citizens to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, lack of funds for exercises, vehicle maintenance and even salaries. Therefore, the country’s defense was undermined by 2014 when Russian hybrid aggression started.
However, despite the poor condition of the army and insidiousness of the enemy, the Ukrainian Armed Forces were capable of defending the independence of Ukraine, protecting its people from the aggressor, and rebuilding its military capabilities by now.
Kharkiv Observer congratulates all the brave Ukrainian military men and women on the Ukrainian Army Day.
