On December 23, the members of Plast scouting organization brought the Holy Fire to Kharkiv. It has made a long way from Jerusalem through Vienna and Kyiv before arriving in the city.
Yesterday the Fire was delivered to the city’s main Catholic Church. Believers could light their candles and take a piece of the flame home.
Representatives of five churches — the Roman and Greek Catholic Churches, the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate — received the Holy Fire. In Orthodox churches, it will burn until Christmas, January 7.
The Bethlehem Fire of Peace is an international annual action dedicated to Christmas celebration. Its purpose is sharing of the Holy Fire across the globe. In 1992, the Fire arrived in Ukraine for the first time. Founded in 1988 by the Austrian TV and radio company as a charitable act, the action aims at bringing the light from the symbolic place of Jesus Christ’s birth to people celebrating Christmas away from home.
