On January 9, an indictment against the ex-deputy director and department chief of the Electrovazhmash state enterprise was sent to Ordzhonikidzevskiy District Court of Kharkiv, after the pre-trial investigation had been completed.
The official and his subordinate are charged with soliciting a bribe and abusing their position.
The criminal case has been under investigation since February 2017 by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
“It was found out that on February 28, 2017, the deputy director of the state enterprise together with a chief of one of the plant’s departments, received $ 37,000 from the executive director of Ukrmashindustriya limited liability company for shipping the prepaid goods to him,” the report of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office informs.
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office specified that the money was found in the plant’s department chief office during the search.
It was the executive director of the Ukrmashindustriya, who complained to the prosecutor’s office that the head of the state enterprise and his subordinate refused to supply him goods, which he had already paid for unless he gave them additional money. Without receiving the goods, the businessman could not have delivered products to another enterprise in time and as a result, he would have been fined for breaking the delivery terms.
In his turn, the ex-deputy director states that the case is falsified to discredit him and to impede the state enterprise’s proper work.
Both suspects might spend up to 12 years in prison if their guilt is proved.
