Elina Svitolina Gets into Australian Open Quarterfinal

Today Kharkivite Elina Svitolina reached the Australian Open quarterfinal, beating Denisa Allertova from the Czech Republic in the round four. The Ukrainian World No. 4 defeated World No. 130 6-3, 6-0.

Svitolina won the round four on the Rod Laver Arena in 57 minutes to get into the Australian Open quarterfinal for the first time.

On January 19, Elina beat her compatriot, the 15-year-old Marta Kostyuk, 6-2, 6-2 in the last 32.

“It’s a pity I had to play against the Ukrainian as it’s always hard to play against a compatriot. Marta definitely will have a great future ahead,” Svitolina admitted.

Kostyuk said she had never competed against such a strong rival before. So the girl got priceless experience, which will help her to win in the future.

On January 23, the 23-year-old Kharkivite will face Belgian world No.37 Elise Mertens for a place in her first Grand Slam semifinal. Today Mertens beat Petra Martic from Croatia 7-6, 7-5.
