Today, Kharkivite Elina Svitolina won the first WTA title of the year, beating Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the final at the Brisbane International in Australia.
The Ukrainian World No. 6 defeated World No. 88 from Belarus 6-2, 6-1.
Kharkivite won the final on Pat Rafter Arena in 65 minutes to achieve the tenth title in her career, five of which she obtained in 2017.
Yesterday, Svitolina beat current World No. 4 Karolina Pliskova from Czech Republic 7-5, 7-5 in the semi-final.
“I’m relieved that everything is over because I didn’t have much time to recover from yesterday’s match and I slept rather badly,” Svitolina admitted.
With this victory, a 23-year-old Elina earned more than $ 190,000 and on Monday she will rise to World No. 4 in the WTA ranking.
The next tournament, where Ukrainian best tennis player takes part, is the Australian Open Grand Slam 2018, which starts on January 15.
