York select team came to Kharkiv to take part in the Seventh Artur Martyrosyan Memorial Rugby League Cup. The English athletes will join three rugby league teams representing West, Center, and East of Ukraine.
Yesterday the rugby players from York visited the Kharkiv city council. They talked to the first vice-president of the Ukrainian Rugby League Federation Gabriel Mykhailov, deputy of Kharkiv city council. He presented them a book about the Kharkiv history and promised an excursion around the city. The URLF vice-president also emphasized that athletes from England are warmly welcomed by Kharkivites.
According to Gabriel Mykhailov, Kharkiv became the first city where Ukrainian rugby league was born in 2006 and began to develop. International teams had already participated in this tournament, but York’s team came to Kharkiv for the first time. “For more than ten years we have been holding competitions of different levels in this sport. Our pride is the rugby league school, which brings us the best athletes”, stressed the vice-president.
