Football Legend Says Good Bye with a Game on Metalist

Yesterday, May 23, the legendary ex-goalkeeper of the Kharkiv football team Metalist and the national football team of Ukraine Oleksandr Horyainov held his farewell match at Kharkiv Metalist stadium.

The friendly match was played between the Team of Oleksandr Horyainov and the Team of Football Stars of Ukraine. The spectacular game gathered 22,000 viewers with a total capacity of the stadium of 40,000 people. The match ended in a 1:1 draw of. One of the goals was scored by the 15-year-old son of the legend of Ukrainian football, Oleksiy Horyainov.

“It was an exhibition game today and the most important thing was that the footballers were enjoying it. The fans were also satisfied,” says Myron Markevych, ex-coach of Metalist, after the match. “Horyainov was a real professional and now he is a good coach, though he never shows off. I am happy to have worked with him and to have insisted on his returning to Metalist.”

All the participants and the footballers with busy schedules, who found an opportunity to play in Kharkiv, note that the atmosphere was exciting and touching. People saw tears in Horyainov’s eyes at the end of the match.

Horyainov’s son was wearing a printed T-shirt with a showing Kharkiv’s young hero Danylo Didik.

Currently, 42-year-old Horyainov is a coach of the Kharkiv team’s successor Metalist 1925 and he plans to do his best to make the team professional.

Reference: Oleksandr Horyainov played more than 500 matches, including 400 with Metalist, as a goalkeeper, more than any other player. In addition, he is top five of the guards of the championship of Ukraine, having held more than 400 matches. Horyainov was famous for his record games series of 943 minutes without missed goals, which remains unbeaten until now. In total, he achieved 182 clean sheets.
