Yesterday July 19, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the project of two new Kharkiv metro stations Derzhavinska and Odeska on the “green” line called Oleksiivska.
The project involves a construction of 3.5 km of new tunnels to extend the “green” line, third among three existing, towards the Kharkiv International Airport and opening two new metro stations and a depot. Purchase of a new rolling stock is also planned.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank are going to invest €320 million in this project. The stations might be launched in 2020.
In the future, another station might appear between Derzhavinska and Odeska. Two more stations should also be built after Odeska with the last one located directly at the airport.
Currently, the total length of all three Kharkiv Metro lines is 38.1 km (23.7 mi). The newest metro station, Peremoha, was the 30th one opened a year ago in August 2016.
