The 133rd anniversary of the prominent artist Zinaida Serebriakova, who belonged to the famous artistic Benois-Lanceray family, was marked in the village of Neskuchne, where she was born on December 10, 1884.
Serebriakova’s paintings fans held a meeting in the memorial museum. It was opened by Informal Friends of Zinaida Serebriakova society in April 2017 on the site of the Benois-Lanceray family’s estate.
In particular, the participants learned two unique stories connecting Serebriakova’s art with Neskuchne. The Society’s founder, Ukrainian poet, literary critic and an ethnographer Mykhailo Krasykov, told the audience about “Zhatva” painting which was created in 1915. It is currently placed in Odesa Art Museum. Also, great-grandchildren of a local handyman Ihnat Holubov, who was featured in some Zinaida’s paintings, shared their family memories about that time.
“For the first time we mark Zinaida Serebriakova’s anniversary in Neskuchne, and it is the beginning of a long journey to remember the outstanding artist at her homeland,” event’s organizer, photographer Vladymyr Ohloblin, noted.
