February 21-22, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli is visiting Kharkiv to discuss the process of implementing reforms, as well as the prospects for the region.
During his stay, Mingarelli is holding meetings with heads of the amalgamated territorial communities, representatives of civil society, local experts of Team Europe and leaders of a number of Kharkiv business associations. The delegation is also visiting the first national manufacturer of LED lamps, which has received EU funding.
Today, the ambassador has held a meeting with head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration Yulia Svitlychna and head of the regional council Serhiy Chernov. The officials have discussed progress in implementing reforms, prioritizing EU assistance and new opportunities for the Kharkiv region’s residents to take part in the programs of the European Union.
Mingarelli stated that the reforms in the region have led to substantial changes. However, he noted that the number of amalgamated territorial communities, formed in the region, is still minor as the region occupies the 13th place in Ukraine in this respect. EU provided €90 million to support the amalgamated territorial communities’ establishment.
Also, the Head of EU Delegation stated that the EU is ready to support the project on the new cancer center in Kharkiv, with funding from the European Investment Bank. In particular, the European partners will supply medical equipment.
It has been highlighted that the European Union will continue to implement a number of programs in the region to support small and medium-sized businesses, primary health care and administrative services.
On February 22, Mingarelli is delivering a speech “How to launch the Ukrainian economy” in Kharkiv National University of Economics.
