The calendar, dedicated to famous Poles, was presented at the Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv on December 18. It was published to mark the 100th anniversary of Poland’s independence, which will be celebrated in 2018.
The calendar compiles the stories of Polish politicians and artists, whose lives were connected with Kharkiv. Among them are the founder of the Polish state, Supreme Commander and Minister of Military Affairs Józef Pilsudski, who studied at the Kharkiv University in 1885-1886, and the commander of the January Uprising, Romuald Traugutt, who conducted military service in our city during 1856-1857.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv promoted the creation of the calendar. The project was led by director of the Ukrainian-Polish Cultural and Educational Center Lyubov Zhvanko.
“Thanks to the Polish-Ukrainian center as well as Kharkivites’ creativity, we can learn about outstanding Polish in this city. Projects like this help to identify Poland’s formation,” Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv Janusz Jablonski said.
