Kharkiv Introduces New Quarantine Regulations

According to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine’s decision “To Ban Passenger Traffic and Limit the Number of Participants in Mass Events up to 10 People,” dated March 17, Kharkiv authorities implemented certain restrictions in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus in the city and its region.

Metro stopped operating on March 17 from 8 pm until April 3. Up to 10 people are allowed to be transported in trams, trolleybuses and buses performing regular passenger traffic on city routes. Since March 18, before taking a separate decision, transporting passengers has been prohibited by rail in all types of domestic connections (suburban, urban, regional and long-distance).

Director of the Kharkiv City Department of Administrative Services and Consumer Market Victoria Kitayhorodska noted that since March 18, the work of business entities, which provides for the reception of visitors has been banned.

The prohibition covers catering facilities such as restaurants, cafes, etc., shopping and entertainment centers, other recreational facilities, fitness centers, retail and consumer services enterprises. At the same time, retailers of food, fuel, hygiene products, medicines and medical devices, communications, as well as banks and insurance companies will operate. Public catering facilities will be able to work only on the targeted delivery of orders, providing the staff with personal protective equipment.

Kharkiv authorities are going to monitor the sanitation at food markets. In supermarkets that sell food, there must be personal protective equipment for employees; the disinfection of shopping areas must be done on a regular basis.

For passengers’ convince land transport will change its route. According to the city council, all transport will run until 10 pm.

Kharkiv authorities recommend the residents stay calm. People should leave home as little as possible, not to go anywhere unnecessarily. This is world practice. Kharkivites should do all they possibly can to avoid the spread of coronavirus and save lives.

Reference: Up to now, 41 cases of coronavirus disease have been reported in Ukraine: two cases in the Zhytomyr region, one case in the Donetsk region, 25 cases in the Chernivtsi region, two cases in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, two cases in the Dnipropetrovsk region, one case in the Ternopil region, three cases in the Kyiv region, three cases in Kyiv and one case in Lviv. Kharkiv resident who was hospitalized in Kyiv hospital was diagnosed with coronavirus. Unfortunately, one resident of the Zhytomyr, one resident of the Chernivtsi and one resident of the Ivano-Frankivsk regions died due to complications.

There have been no cases of coronavirus in the Kharkiv region.
