Kharkiv athletes from the Ukrainian National Paralympic Team won five medals at World Cup stage in cross-country skiing and biathlon, which took place in Sapporo, Japan, on March 13-17.
Ukrainians got six gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals in total. Kharkivites won one gold, two silver and two bronze.
Overall, three Kharkiv athletes, Oksana Shyshkova, Vitaliy Lukyanenko and Liudmyla Liashenko participated in the competitions.
In visually impaired women’s races, Oksana Shyshkova with her guide Vitaliy Kazakov won at biathlon middle distance, ended second twice at a short-distance cross-country skiing and biathlon sprint. She also gained bronze at middle-distance cross-country skiing.
Vitaliy Lukyanenko, guided by Borys Babar, finished third at biathlon middle distance in visually impaired men’s races.
In the World Cup Nation Rankings, the Ukrainian team stands on top, gaining 16595 points, including 7558 points in cross-country skiing and 9037 in biathlon. Germany finishes second and the USA is the third in the rankings respectively.
