Strengthening Cooperation between European Regions

Head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration Yulia Svitlychna participated in the meeting of the Bureau of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe, which took place in Paris on September 15.

The main topic of the discussion was the situation of local and regional democracy in several countries, in particular, Turkey, Ukraine, Romania, and Armenia.

“We promote the interests of Ukraine. As vice president of the Chamber of Regions, I propose to strengthen European cooperation at the level of local communities and to introduce a number of regional social programs in Ukraine,” Yulia Svitlychna stated.

She also noted that the forthcoming visit of the Council of Europe leadership to Kyiv in November confirms support of Ukraine’s European integration policy by EU countries.

The agenda also included the preparation of the next sessions of the Bureau of the Congress, in particular, the 33rd session, and an item on cooperation with Morocco and Tunisia. The Bureau also examined the arrangements for observing local elections in Macedonia and Georgia. It considered a draft preliminary resolution on the future of the European Local Democracy Week. The Congress has coordinated this pan-European event since 2007.
