International Gender Forum will be held in Kharkiv for the first time on July 7. Preparing for the event, Kharkiv authorities discussed the upcoming forum with the OSCE representatives.
The issues of gender equality, in particular, a participation of women in politics and security, as well as the fight against gender-based violence, were mainly discussed during the meeting.
The head of the regional state administration Yulia Svitlychna states that Kharkiv region takes part in Prevention of Gender Based Violence, Human Trafficking and Violations of Children’s Rights project started in May. Moreover, supported by a Swedish company rehabilitation center for women affected by violence is established in Kharkiv region.
The Ambassador Melanne Verveer, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office on Gender Issues, acknowledges it is extremely important to involve women in all spheres of public life.
“The interaction between the police and prosecutor’s office is very important for dealing with human trafficking. OSCE has a very active office that deals with counteracting human trafficking. And I am sure that its representatives will be interested in cooperation if there is such a need’’, said Melanne Verveer.
Also during the meeting, both parties discussed female IDPs integration, the reform of patrol police and women’s role in it, rehabilitation processes and the rights of women in the Army currently fighting in the east of Ukraine.
