The 5th KharkivAVIAfest-2018 air show at the Korotych airfield near Kharkiv gathered about 17,000 spectators on September 8-9. The event was dedicated to the 93rd anniversary of the Kharkiv Gryzodubova Air Club foundation.
Visitors were amazed by renewed flight program, which included formation and solo flying by various aircraft and helicopters. Skydivers jumped from AN-2 and a twin-engine light AN-28 turboprop aircraft.
Breathtaking aerobatics were performed by the twin-engine SU-27 of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
One of the show’s participants was MI-2 helicopter pilot Harik Heorhikov, who had already surpassed over 9,000 flying hours. Within a few seconds after take-off, his vehicle went off the first steep turn. After that, he thrilled spectators with a real air ballet – zoom climb, spirals and pirouettes.
During the show, the Aero L-29 Delfin pilot demonstrated a comprehensive aerobatic performance.
The festival’s visitors got the opportunity to fly in a plane too. A guest from Lutsk Vitali Kalush won the flight in the cockpit. “I have never flown on a plane and I have not been trained before. It was just perfect! Emotions were running high!” Vitali shared his impressions.
SU-31 single-engine aerobatic aircraft’s pilot Oleksiy Agievych, a multiple prize-winner of the European aerobatics championships, amused the public with his stunts demonstrating sideways and inverted maneuvers.
Seven hours of almost nonstop flights filled the sky over the airfield, entertaining the amassed crowds.
Over the two days, military vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, retro cars and motorbikes, rescue and firefighting equipment exhibitions and all sorts of firing ranges were demonstrated at the festival. Also, food courts, photo-zones, playgrounds with animators, pleasure rides and master classes were available for all comers.
“The Kharkiv Aviation Festival is the culmination of light aircraft season in Ukraine,” states the festival’s organizer, the head of the Kharkiv aviation club Serhii Filatov. “Pilots from all over the country gathered at Korotych airfield to demonstrate their skills. During two days of the show, more than 20 types of aircraft were involved into the event.”
