January 3, a group of Ukrainian mountaineers led by Kharkivite Valentyn Sypavin climbed to the top of Aconcagua, 6962 m (22,837 ft), which is the highest peak of the American continent.
The outstanding achievement was reported by the president of the Mountaineering and Climbing Federation of the Kharkiv region Hennady Kopeyka, who is in touch with the group.
Earlier in December, the climbers held several mountain tours and ascended to the top of the highest volcano in the world Ojos del Salado. Also, the group celebrated the New Year at the Aconcagua slopes, having opened climbing season 2018.
One of the group is Tetyana Zotova, the champion of the Kharkiv region in mountaineering of 2017, she became the first Kharkiv woman alpinist, who ascended to Aconcagua.
Reference: Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia and the highest point in both the Western Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. The mountain of the Andes mountain range lies entirely within Argentina, located northwest of its capital Mendoza.
