Personal Data Hunter Trapped in Kharkiv

Kharkiv cyber police detected a 23-year-old hacker who got access to hundred people’s computers as an administrator.

According to the law enforcement officers, the hacker infected the computers with malware for two years. Both Ukrainian and foreign users were attacked, among the cracks victims there were citizens of the USA, India, France, Italy and other countries, detectives report.

The representative of the department for combating cybercrime in the Kharkiv region Denis Kolesnik says that the hacker not only could intrude into the people’s work but he also got videos of their personal lives, using their webcams.

During the search in the attacker’s apartment, his computer was seized, its hard drive contained the malicious software.

The police are considering several motives of the criminal on analyzing the information found on his computer. One of the key versions might be political order since there were some members of Ukrainian political parties among the victims.

The suspect might face up three to six years of imprisonment under the law of Ukraine.

Also, tomorrow the international forum on cybersecurity HackIT is held. Yesterday it was reported that the American entrepreneur and hacker Ryan Lackey, who is arriving in Kharkiv to deliver a lecture, got some e-mails threatening to kill him. Nevertheless, the American hacker said it would not prevent him from coming. The HackIT organizers say they will provide the key speaker with guarding. They also applied to the National Police and Cyberpolice.
