Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia and Ukraine and local authorities took part in the Honorary Consulate opening ceremony in Kharkiv. It becomes the 14th diplomatic office, and the eighth among EU countries’ institutions to operate in the city.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajcak confirmed that Slovakia is preparing a number of interesting cooperation projects and the Kharkiv region has enormous potential for developing them in future.
In his turn, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin noted that the consulate’s opening would strengthen unique friendly human relations between two nations, as well as enhance ties in culture and business on the regional level. “I hope that Slobozhanshchyna will be lit in a completely different way in Slovakia,” added Klimkin.
According to the head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration Yulia Svitlychna, trade relations between the Kharkiv region and Slovakia increased by 35 percent during the last year. “Our priorities are opening of industrial sites in Slovakia, as well as cooperation in the development of mechanical engineering, food industry, energy saving, humanitarian and educational projects,” she notes.
Victor Popov, board chairman of ACS FED Corporation, was appointed honorary consul of Slovakia in Kharkiv. “The consulate’s opening aims to further strengthen humanitarian relations in the field of science, education and sports as well as in economics,” he expects.
The Honorary Consulate of Slovakia is located at 26 Chernyshevska St.
