Tenth International Economic Forum in Kharkiv

The 10th International Economic Forum “Innovation. Investments. Kharkiv Initiatives!” took place in Kharkiv on September 29-30.

This year, about 600 participants attended the event. Delegations from 35 countries, in particular, the USA, the EU, Poland, Canada, Japan, the UK, Italy, France, Germany, China, Brazil and India attended the forum. In total, according to organizers, 18 ambassadors headed their delegations including the EU Ambassador Hugues Mingarelli, the Ambassador of Japan Shigeki Sumi and the Ambassador of Lithuania Marius Janukonis.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Cabinet of Ministers’ representatives, Kharkiv officials and business executives participated in the event. Also, business delegations had negotiated on the forum’s sidelines and visited large regional enterprises.

The forum was comprised of a plenary meeting and three panel discussions. The first topic was “Integrated Model of Economic Development: Cross-Sectorial Effects of Investments and Cooperation” where industrial development and attraction of foreign investments were discussed. Participants of “Creative Economy: From New Education to New Industries” panel studied successful startups and modern business trends. Also, The questions regarding the future of Ukrainian science, the ways of students’ education and training as a part of cooperation with foreign countries were raised. The third panel was focused on decentralization.

Kharkiv leading enterprises, including Kharkiv Joint-Stock Company Turboatom and Electrovazhmash plant, signed a number of agreements at the event. Notably, Turboatom signed a $3 million contract with Eurasian Energy Corporation from Kazakhstan.

Contracts totaling $75 million as well as seven memorandums on cooperation in the field of industry, energy efficiency, education and science, support of small and medium-sized businesses were signed during the event.

The forum aims to cooperate closely with international organizations, authorities, NGOs and business, as well as to promote the Kharkiv region as an outstanding place for investments.

Great Slobozhanska Fair followed the event. It took place near exhibition center Radmir Expohall. Kharkivites were able to buy and try traditional Ukrainian dishes and take pictures of exhibits made of fruit and vegetables grown in our country. People of all ages had fun and were able to feel true national Ukrainian spirit at the fair.
