Kharkiv and Japanese Giants Start Cooperating in Nuclear Energy

Last week Kharkiv Joint-Stock Company Turboatom and Japanese Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation signed an agreement in the field of nuclear energy.

The two companies supported by the State Enterprise “National Nuclear Power Generating Company Energoatom” decided to cooperate in the modernization of the turbine equipment for nuclear power plants.

“The cooperation between Turboatom and Toshiba is based on the high potential of both companies and their great experience in delivering new engineering and technical solutions in nuclear energy,” Energoatom officials noted.

Turboatom’s CEO Viktor Subotin pointed out that the company together with Toshiba will soon determine priority projects and will be able to agree on a joint action plan at the 10th International Economic Forum in Kharkiv in September.

“The signed memorandum is a step that provides the opportunity to contribute to the upgrading of energy equipment for Ukrainian nuclear power plants as well as for nuclear energy facilities in other countries,” Vice President of Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation Goro Yanase said.  He highlighted that both Ukrainian and Japanese companies are leaders in nuclear power plant equipment manufacturing. Therefore, he believes that Toshiba will contribute to more complete solutions in the area of nuclear energy together with Turboatom.

Previously, in October 2017, a memorandum for the nuclear power industry was signed between Energoatom and Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation to promote cooperation on the modernization of turbines and generators at Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.
