“Kharkiv Malyshev plant has launched a contract totaling $85.6 million to repair T-80UD tanks which was signed in February this year by Ukrspetsexport state-owned arms trading company and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as part of the IDEX-2021 International Defense Exhibition,” the plant’s press service informs. So far, all the preparatory stages and legal procedures have been completed.
According to Vasyl Krylas, the plant’s general director, this is not the only contract which the enterprise will perform this year at the request of Pakistan. “Today we can fairly state that Ukrspetsexport, our main foreign trade partner, is successfully engaged in tenders conducted by the Directorate General Defense Purchase of the Land Forces of Pakistan. Therefore, the overall portfolio only Pakistani orders of the Malyshev plant will increase to almost $140 million this year,” the plant’s director highlighted.
The tank-building enterprise also has high expectations for the order of Oplot tanks. In May 2021, a Pakistani delegation led by Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistan Army Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Ukraine.
On May 20, the Commander-in-Chief arrived in Kharkiv region, where modern weapons and military equipment were demonstrated to the delegation at one of the military training grounds. Qamar Javed Bajwa was most impressed by the capacity of the Oplot tank and the Skif complex.
The plant’s director hopes that a good impression of Ukrainian combat vehicles will turn into contracts.
