The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine transferred FC Metalist’s property to the ownership of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration on April 11. The training facilities of Metalist club in Vysokyi town have also been returned to state control.
Previously, the property rights of the Metalist complex, including buildings, land and trademark, were confiscated from the fugitive oligarch Serhiy Kurchenko, who had become the Metalist owner during ex-president Yanukovich’s regime. Minister of Justice Pavlo Petrenko explained that the new legislation was used for this unprecedented confiscation case.
“The Metalist Stadium was actually stolen from the state, and now it has been returned Ukrainians due to the efforts of the Prosecutor General’s Office,” Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman pointed out. The Prime Minister noted that the fans’ interests were taken into account for the decision.
Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko in his turn states that the cost of the property, transferred to the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, is estimated at $65 million.
Currently, the Metalist stadium hosts Shakhtar matches.
