“On February 1, as a result of the attack of pro-Russian terrorists, near the urban-type settlement Novotoshkivske, Popasna district, Luhansk region, a senior army medic of the 93rd mechanized brigade, sergeant Klavdia Sytnik, maiden name – Korol, was killed,” informs the brigade on its Facebook page.
The young woman perished on the spot while she was delivering medicine to a sick soldier. Klavdia died from an exit shrapnel wound into the chest, even though she was wearing personal protective equipment.
“At the time, this sector of the front was fired on by mortars, machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades in addition to large-caliber machine guns and small arms,” states the brigade.
Klavdia was born in February 1986 in Zachepylivka town, Kharkiv region, where she was a permanent resident. She graduated from Krasnohrad Medical College and was a qualified paramedic.
In 2017, she made a decision to join the army and signed a 3-year contract. Firstly, she served in the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade and since October 2019 moved over to the 93rd mechanized brigade. “She was outspoken and fair, honest and stoic, she was a real truth-teller and was loved for that,” recalls her hometown friend Anatoliy.
“Klavdia served not only as an army medic but acted as a cook and psychologist. She was not just a soldier but a real combat sworn sister,” says Valeriy Rudenko, the deputy commander of the first division of the 54th brigade.
On February 4, Klavdia was buried in her native town. Relatives and local residents including brothers in arms paid their last respects to the brave woman.
She was killed just two weeks before the end of her tour of duty.
Klavdia Sytnik left behind a 12-year-old daughter, parents and a sister with special needs.
